Just prior to the Interceptor making it to the market, there was one bike that had its mitts well and securely lodged inside the mid weight racing community.. The FJ600 wasn't all that pretty (at least I never thought so), but they were nicely quick, cheap, and bloody everywhere. Never had one, never wanted one, but they have to be mentioned when it comes to early 80's motoryclces.
One of the truly great BIG BORE sport bikes of that era, the FJ1100 (later to be taken off the market for a year, then to re-appear as a 1200)... They were quick, nimble, and as much power as you could really ask for... for a sport tourer. They weren't marketed to the hard core racing groups, though some did pick them up, and took them to the track
